Inspired by a jellyfish, the 6ft tall structure started with the head. The head is Chihuly-inspired using melted plastic platters to give the base an organic shape. Ribbon was then intertwined intentionally to accentuate the organic shape and to add a slight shimmer. The main tentacles are made of hand-beaded wire to keep the curled structure while others were filled in using different types of ribbon, tulle, mirrors, and bubble-shaped lights. Finally, to meet the overarching theme requirements of “outside-in”, there is a small gold sailboat attached to a motor within the head of the jellyfish. It is programmed to move up and down within the tentacles with no way out. Overall, the final composition works significantly as a hanging sculpture in the round.
